Priority 1

Empower Teachers to Collect and Analyze Data

Data collection and analysis will be consistent across the district to aid in the process of incorporating interventions across all levels.
Strategic Priority One: Empower Teachers to Collect and Analyze Data
Action steps related to the priority

In the summer of 2021 Generation Schools Network staff led a three day PD empowering the Wiggins Teacher Leadership Team to understand and put into practice data breakdown. In addition to the three day PD the TLP meets monthly during the 2021-2022 school year with Generation Schools Network to look at data and break down the data to support our students in areas of most concern.
NWEA testing was given to students in grades 3-11 at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to help teachers identify what standards the students are understanding and what areas gaps are being created. NWEA data was broken down after each test during Teacher In-service days to help guide instruction, determine student classroom groups, and help teachers map their curriculum.  Through this intensive practice the Middle School was able to go from Priority Improvement to Performance in a one year time period.
The district is going through the implementation of a new researched-based reading curriculum in kindergarten through eighth grade. This curriculum was chosen from the approved curriculum list for the Read Act released by CDE. A strong focus on interventions, ELL components and integration within both whole group and small group instruction, as well as scaffolding is included within this curriculum. Utilizing the new curriculum with fidelity is expected of teachers to meet the needs of student achievement and growth.  New Programs being implemented in the special education program include Rewards, Corrective Reading, and TransMath. The special education department is moving away from computer based programs to programs with direct instruction. Students are being monitored on a monthly basis and instruction is being adjusted as data indicates it is needed.
Evidence of Impact
Assessment Data gathered from NWEA, DIBLES and CMAS scores show that students from grades 1-10 are showing growth and achievement.  Students receiving the most interventions (ELL, Free/Reduced/Minority students) all moved from approaching to meets on the district SPF

Wiggins School District has partnered with GSN to turn around the middle school, support our at-risk students, engage the parents of our hispanic students, and create graduation pathways .  This partnership has been extremely advantageous for the district. After three years of this partnership the middle school was able to improve assessment scores enough to get off of the clock achieving Performance status the past two years.  Administration and staff used the lessons learned from GSN to turn the elementary school scores around in just one year going from Priority Improvement in 2022 to performance in 2023.
